Can you imagine a touchpad and numeric keypad coexisting on a keyboard in the same location? it may seem like an impossibility! However, We did it successfully.
it is true that a traditional keyboard's numeric keypad location cannot accommodate a touchpad. Instead, we have employed the innovative principle of capacitive technology, which is commonly used in smartphone touchscreens. Rather than mechanical keys, capacitive sensors are used to detect input. This means that one physical object can be used to provide multiple functions.
Our combined touch and numeric pad utilizes a capacitive surface sensor, which is situated on a physical medium such as a PCB or film. The sensor emits an electric field through a suitable medium that serves as the user interface. When an object - such as the user's finger - approaches the electric field, its capacity changes. This alteration is detected by firmware, and if it exceeds a particular threshold, it triggers a signal that mimics the pressing of a mechanical key.
INTEGRATING A NUMERIC KEYPAD INTO A TOUCHPAD EXPANDS ITS FUNCTIONALITY
Our in-house developed firmware allows for the touchpad to switch to a numeric keypad and vice versa, thanks to designated hot spots that activate and deactivate certain areas of the surface. In doing so, we were able to create a larger operating surface than traditional touch pads, providing more ease of use for the user.
Our goal with this technology is to offer customers compact and aesthetically pleasing input solutions without sacrificing functionality. DAVO Electron Model B45 keyboard is the first product featuring this combined technology, and it has a full key layout, numeric keypad, touchpad, and additional functions. We are confident that our combined touch/numeric pad will continue to be integrated into other keyboards and operating solutions.
